Ya' know, treacle is such English icon in the dessert business, probably because of "Treacle Tart". Molasses is the closest substitute, and dark corn syrup is good too here the states. For a lighter taste, there is Lyle's Golden Syrup which you can find as an English import in upscale groceries or online (or from amazon & walmart, too!) It is sweeter than corn syrup with a honey-like color, lighter than treacle, and even has a honey-like flavor. If you are inclined to obsessions, you might as well just order the Lyle's Golden Syrup Cookbook at www.lylesgoldensyrup.com
