Jackie and I committed to our travels as logistics, children, dogs, finances, menfolk, work assignments and other forces challenged our resolve. Many times, as we shared the news of unexpected $5000 roof repairs, kid-driven car crashes or our own stupid car crashes, creative work picking up and slowing down then picking up again, we realized how easily the drudgeries and comfortable challenges of daily
life threatened our big plans to be free, to travel, to see it all.
Now the ride has begun. This summer, I visit food markets in New York, Zurich, Vienna, Paris, Brussels, Paris, London. Jackie is riding the rails of Colorado, teaching watercolor technique to travelers, maintaining a few horses and a gaggle of freelance jobs. We’re traveling, and still planning the next trip – a way of life. I will miss you on this one, Jack, but I’m paving the Euroroad for you and looking out for vineyards and cafes that need your painterly attention next summer.
